FAIR USE -- it's everyone's favorite, uncomfortable, controversial topic. This week in the news "Another professor is a douchebag! SURPRISE!" So, Fat Albert knows all about fair use and what it entails and libraries in particular have to be very, very careful about what they can and cannot reproduce. In the article cited above, Professor Moulton is suing a group of kids for making a buck off of other kids not going to class and selling them their notes. Oh no! The horror and scandal! Dude, this guy needs to get off his rocker and realize that this shit has been happening for ages. The only difference is that now it's more easily accessible and lucrative via the internet. Has he never seen Saves by the Bell? What's next? Is this clown going to bring Fat Albert to court for using his name or something similar and perhaps a derivative of his name in any context which he did not condone? This whole case reeks the stench of an older jackass trying to make a buck or two off of some kids who thought of something that he did not. What he should have done is not tried to legitimize his case by bringing to to court but broken one of their kneecaps to teach them a lesson and then be the Godfather in the background secretly making money off of all of this. When lectures become so copyrighted that students can't take notes is the day that Fat Albert goes on a diet. Fuck that.
Best,
F.A.
